What is important during a drywall repair?

  1. Clean the area and protect surroundings
  2. Identify and remove the damaged sections
  3. Install appropriate supports
  4. Select the right material for the location
  5. Measure and affix
  6. Protect with a quality primer
  7. Apply texture
  8. Paint
  9. Clean the area
For large indoor drywall repairs, monitor your AC filter periodically. Fine dust particles can be introduced to the AC duct system and clog your filter faster than usual. A good practice is to turn the AC off and/or replace the AC filter at the end of the project.

Drywall Water Damage: Critical Considerations

When repairing drywall damaged by water we always check moisture levels prior to proceeding with repairs. Very often we are called to repair drywall while the area is still wet. We use specialized instruments to measure presence of water and moisture. We evaluate environmental conditions and install temporary drying equipment when needed, then return to perform the repairs only after the area is dry.

In the pictures below you can see on the left and in dark blue a high moisture content in the drywall; a week later and after using drying equipment the wall is ready for repairs. By taking these steps we eliminated conditions that could have led to organic growth (possibly including mold and/or mildew) within the walls of the house.

Drywall Repair: Your Questions Answered

How long does drywall repair take?

A drywall repair project can range from a one-day repair to several days. The variables include the size of the repair, indoor and outdoor weather conditions, location of the repair, framing, and type of texture.

How much does drywall repair cost?

Drywall repair costs vary widely depending on the size, location, elements behind the drywall, type of texture, and weather conditions.

Wall repairs start at $450  |  Ceiling repairs start at $550

Certain special cases may not require a full repair but a touch-up, which can be done at a lower cost.

Can I lower my drywall repair cost?

A typical option is to complete the project and exclude painting, if you feel comfortable taking this final step on your own.

Another option is to group several repairs together — this allows the technician to perform additional work while the repair dries, which may save the need for a return trip.

Should I repair my drywall myself?

If you are handy and have the patience, some drywall repairs may be projects you can pursue. You will need tools specific to drywall, along with materials that usually come in large quantities.

When you factor in the time you will invest in visits to the supply house, materials, your labor, and the final results, you might conclude that the job was actually more expensive that way.

If you plan on doing this periodically, you can certainly explore it. There are plenty of videos online showing the basics of drywall repair.

Do you do drywall patching?

Yes — what most people call a “drywall patch” is simply a drywall repair, and it is one of our most common services. Whether it is a nail hole, a door handle impact, a utility cutout, or a larger section that needs to be replaced, we handle it all under the same flat-rate pricing. Every repair includes texture matching and paint, so the result blends in completely.
