More Clearance. More Independence. Less Compromise.
Standard interior doorways are typically 28–30 inches wide — not enough for a wheelchair or walker. We widen doorways to ADA-recommended 32–36 inches, with full structural framing, drywall finishing, and trim restoration so the change looks intentional, not improvised.
Doorway Widening Services
Widening a doorway is a structural project — it involves removing studs, reframing the opening, patching and finishing drywall, installing new casing trim, and reinstalling or replacing the door. Done right, the finished opening looks like it was built that way. We handle every step from framing to final paint-ready finish.
Structural Doorway Widening
We remove the existing door frame, reframe the opening to 32" or 36" clear width (ADA-recommended), install a proper header, and prep the opening for a new door unit. Non-load-bearing and load-bearing walls both handled with appropriate structural care.
Pocket Door Installation
Where swing clearance is limited, a pocket door that slides into the wall is an ideal solution. We frame the pocket, install the hardware, hang the door, and finish the surrounding drywall and trim — gaining full clearance without sacrificing floor space to a door swing.
Offset Hinge Installation
For doorways that only need 1–2 inches of additional clearance, offset (swing-clear) hinges allow the door to swing completely clear of the frame without structural modification — a fast, low-cost solution when full widening isn't required.
Drywall Repair & Finishing
After framing, the wall on both sides of the widened opening is patched, taped, mudded, and sanded to a smooth, paint-ready finish — seamlessly blending the modification into your existing wall surface.
Trim & Casing Restoration
New door casing trim matched to your existing interior style completes the installation — so the widened doorway looks designed, not modified. Primed and ready for paint in your choice of color.
Lever Hardware Installation
We replace standard round knobs with lever-style door hardware at the same time — eliminating grip requirements and making every door easy to operate with limited hand strength.
More Than Just a Wider Opening
The structural work has to be right — but so does the finish. Here's how we approach doorway widening so the result looks and performs the way it should.
Scope Assessment First
We identify load-bearing status, adjacent utilities, and finish conditions before quoting. No surprises after work begins — you'll know exactly what the project involves upfront.
Proper Structural Framing
Every widened opening is reframed with an appropriately sized header. We don't skip structural steps to save time — the framing is done right regardless of whether the wall is load-bearing.
Finish Matches Your Home
Drywall patched to match existing texture, trim matched to your interior profile — the finished doorway looks like part of the original construction, not an afterthought.
