For large indoor drywall repairs its important to monitor the AC filter periodically. Fine dust particles can be introduced to the AC duct system and clog your filter faster than usual. A good practice is to turn the AC off, and/or replace the AC filter at the end of the project.

How long does it take to repair drywall?

A drywall repair project can range from a one-day repair to several days. The variables include the size of the repair, indoor and outdoor weather conditions, location of the repair, framing, and type of texture.

How much does a typical drywall repair cost?

Drywall repair, texture, and paint

Drywall repairs cost varies widely since they depend on the size, location of the repair, elements behind the drywall, type of texture, and even weather conditions. For some reference, below are some common price ranges:

– Wall repair, up to 1 square foot $300 to $450

– Wall repair 2-4 square feet $450 and above

– Ceiling repair, up to 1 square foot $450 to $850

– Ceiling repair, 2-4 square feet $850 and above

The biggest element affecting cost is labor, which depending on the size, location, and weather conditions may expand these ranges. Good drywall repairs, using quality materials typically take two visits, sometimes three if the project includes painting. With multiple visits labor costs add-up. Also, if the temperature is lower, or humidity high dry times are affected, making the project last longer and again, adding extra labor costs.

A small project located indoors, may at times be completed in one visit; in these cases the repair cost would fall in the lower end.

Can I lower my drywall repair cost?

A typical option to lower your drywall repair bill is to complete the project and exclude painting. Since painting is normally done last and in a separate trip, if you are able to, and comfortable taking this final step on your own, you can save money in both the paint, labor, and trip to finalize the job.

Another option is to group several projects together, this would allow the technician to perform additional work while the repair dries, which may save the need for a return trip. If the scope is large enough then the labor costs associated with a second visit would be spread over more projects, lowering the average project cost.

Should I repair my drywall myself?

If you are handy and have the patience some drywall repairs may be projects that you can pursue. You will need to buy certain tools that are unique to drywall, along with materials that usually come in large sizes. When you factor in the time that you will invest in visits to the supply house, materials, your labor time, and the final results you might conclude that the job was actually more expensive that way. Now if you plan on doing this periodically you can certainly explore it. There are plenty of videos online showing the basics of drywall repair.
